Unhidden
Taking from the success of 2009‘s exhibition in a disused shop, Dis-location has been born. This year we used the, not yet inhabited, new office of Local Architect‘s Spitfire Architecture, providing us with a two floor and four roomed space, in which to exhibit.
Using the theme of veiled: Unhidden, artists Amanda Champness, Robbie Jenkins, Abigail MaryRose Clark, Elaine Cameron, Kerry Brown and Roger Hilton produced new works, as well as showing previously completed pieces which addressed this theme.
There was a range of outcomes from sculpture, to photography, to text based pieces, as well as embossed pieces and jewellery.
Unhidden was spread over one weekend, with the private view taking place on a Friday night, the mood for which was set by the lighting. Over 14 house-hold lamps were being used as the only source of light for the evening. Then the opportunity was given for the viewers to return on the Saturday or Sunday to view the work in what turned out to be a glorious sunlit weekend.
Viewers to the exhibition commented:

‘Just wanted to say thank you for putting on unhidden during the festival!!!It was really great to see a show that was fresh and exciting with an obvious focus on contemporary practice. Both myself and my partner are art graduates and have missed having shows like this on our doorstep, it‘s great that its happening in Eastbourne& I think the location was great, it had that down and out charm that you come to expect‘
‘Most enjoyable evening. Well run and although I didn‘t fully understand some of the exhibits, it was well worthwhile coming over to see it. Please keep up the good work.‘
‘Excellent event, enjoyed the surprise of last minute location. Venue was good, very informal and intimate. Work was fascinating, particularly enjoyed photographs and sculpture.‘
‘thanks for Friday‘s event, and also what a good show I felt you managed to pull off. Definitely good for the college and for Eastbourne in my view. Very well done and thanks again‘
